The Process

The head was carved from balsa wood with a large slot for the eyes. The eyes were made from wooden beads with epoxy putty put into the hole, a smaller hole was then bored out in the centre so a toothpick can be used to rotate the eyes during animation.

The eyes were painted and covered in a gloss clearcoat. Replacement mouths were sculpted from Fimo and baked, they can then be used to animate lip syncs and different expressions.

An armature was made from twisted aluminium wire and attached to the head. Clay was then sculpted around the head and armature.

The finished puppet with and without the eyes, mouth, and brow.
